MARGAO
The Shadow Council for Margao team on Sunday participated in the initiative of the Food Bank, Sangolda and Navtara Hotels providing food packets to 5000 workers all over Goa.
The team comprising Dr Roslyn Pereira, Adv Nick Colaco, Adv Snehal Onskar, Aziz Shah, Damodar Onskar, Nelita Coelho, Loyola Rodrigues, Dominic Coutinho, Manjunath Madar and SCM Convener Savio Coutinho distributed around 300 packets to the waste collection workers engaged at the baling station at old fish market, Sulabh Souchalaya workers, Sonsodo dump yard workers and door to door waste collection workers at Aquem Margao and Fatorda.
Coutinho said the sole purpose of identifying the waste management workers was to appreciate their contribution towards maintaining the city clean, and so also to highlight the fact that the world over, all others celebrate the Labour Day with a holiday, but the waste management workers are not as privileged as the others.
While other permanent employees would earn heavy overtime allowances for services on Labour Day, the waste management workers who are daily wage workers would have to stay satisfied with the days’ wages only.
The SCM has thanked Donald Fernandes of the Food Bank Sangolda and all its associates for the initiative.
