This may make reading interesting as Chief Minister Pramod Sawant effected a change in his Cabinet on Sunday.
After days of speculations, Curchorem finally lost power in the scheme of things on Sunday after the son of Nuvem constituency Nilesh Cabral, a native of Verna village, was told to step down from office by the Chief Minister.
Even though Nuvem constituency got a representation in the Cabinet after around eight years, the newly-inducted Minister Alexio Sequeira resides at Manora in Raia village, a part of neighbouring Curtorim constituency.
That’s not all. It’s a sheer coincidence that a son of Manora-Raia in Curtorim constituency (Alexio Sequeira) is inducted in the BJP-led government even when Curtorim Independent MLA Reginaldo Lourenco, was one of the first newly-elected MLAs to extend support to the BJP in the formation of government in 2022. After his election as Independent in the 2022 polls, Reginaldo then was certainly looking forward for a Cabinet berth in the Pramod Sawant dispensation, but had to contend with the Industrial Development Corporation (IDC) in the political scheme of things with the BJP almost reaching the half way mark in the numbers game and the MGP and the Independents extending support to the BJP in government formation.
That Nilesh Cabral’s roots lies in Verna village came to the fore when Nuvem MLA Alexio Sequeira on Sunday reminded that the Curchorem MLA has been his voter and that he feels embarrassed and awkward that he had to take his place in the Cabinet.
Though elected from Curchorem constituency, Cabral too seemed to have not forgotten his roots in Verna village. As a Minster of Environment, Cabral had once told the WRD to take up the river Sal rejuvenation right from Verna, since it his home village.
As PWD Minister, Cabral had told the PWD engineers that he too is interested in preserving the Administrator of Comunidades building given that he is a shareholder of the local Comunidade.
