After a delay by over a year, the first Covid Care Centre in Pernem began functioning at the Sawalwaddo indoor stadium in Pernem on Friday.
Deputy Chief Minister Babu Ajgaonkar, North Goa Collector Ajit Roy, Pernem Deputy Collector Ravishankar Nipanikar, Chandel Sarpanch Santosh Malik, and former sarpanch Prakash Kambli inspected facilities at the centre.
Later speaking to reporters, Ajgaonkar said there are about 50 beds at the centre with 20 beds equipped with oxygen facilities and two ambulances are also at the site.
“The centre will be managed by the Pernem Deputy Collector Ravishankar Nipanikar and I request patients to make use of this centre. If their health deteriorates, they will be moved to the District Hospital," said the deputy chief minister, while assuring to provide adequate facilities at the centre.
The functioning of the Covid Care Centre at the Pernem stadium has brought much relief to people in Pernem taluka, as Covid patients invariably had to be shifted to hospitals outside the taluka for medical treatment.
Meanwhile, Pernem taluka recorded 58 new Covid cases, taking the count to 1,314 active cases.
New cases were reported in Morjim (6), Mandrem (13), Tuem (4), Virnoda (5), Keri (1), Korgao (2), Pernem town (7), Agarwaddo (2), Arambol (4), Parcem (8) and Paliem (6).
