PANAJI
Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) national convenor Arvind Kejriwal on Friday announced six guarantees for Goa ahead of the Assembly elections, promising welfare measures, lower household expenses and better public services if the party comes to power.
Addressing a gathering in Panaji, he promised 24x7 electricity and 300 units of free power monthly for every household, Rs 3,000 monthly assistance for every woman, Rs 10 lakh health insurance for every family, free bus travel for women, a sports ground in every village and repeal of Section 39A within a month of assuming office.
Welfare promises
Kejriwal criticised existing women’s welfare schemes for imposing numerous eligibility conditions, contrasting them with direct financial assistance in Punjab without restrictive criteria.
He said overcrowded government hospitals forced families to spend heavily on private treatment and claimed the proposed Rs 10 lakh insurance cover would ease their burden. He also promised free bus travel for women and world-class sports infrastructure for Goa’s youth.
Responding to funding concerns, he said similar promises had been implemented in Delhi and Punjab. “The issue is not money but political will,” he said, adding that Goa had sufficient resources for the proposed schemes.
AAP Goa president Valmiki Naik and Benaulim MLA Venzy Viegas also accused the BJP of corruption, misgovernance and neglect of public interests, projecting AAP as an alternative in the State.
