Senior Congressman Pratapsingh Rane in a reply to a question seeking his reaction on the statements of Amit Shah insisted that Goa wasn’t a union territory or a colony to be ruled from Delhi.
“It is for the people of Goa to decide. We’re not a union territory any more to be ruled from Delhi. It is a colonial mindset,” Rane said.
When pressed to elaborate, Rane said that “it wasn’t good for the country when the defence minister was in and ‘things’ were happening on the border.”
The Aam Aadmi Party in Goa was more vociferous with spokesperson Dr Oscar Rebello saying that the BJP was trying its best to be like the Congress.
“In a very beautiful way the BJP is trying to be like the Congress. When the Congress ruled at the centre, the BJP kept accusing Sonia Gandhi of being the ‘real’ prime minister and being an unconstitutional Prime Minister, etc. Manohar Parrikar is the Sonia Gandhi of the Goa government,” Dr Rebello said.
“AAP is the only party which is talking of decentralizing power and giving it to the people. The other parties especially the BJP and the Congress are taking power away from their own MLAs and MPs and restricting power to a group of few people,” Dr Rebello said.
In his speech in Vasco da Gama, BJP national president Amit Shah said that: “No matter where Parrikar is, the next BJP government in Goa will run under his supervision.”
Shah also compared the State of Goa to a mole on the face of India. He compared Goa to a mole which enhanced India’s beauty.
