The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) on Saturday dissolved its current organization in Goa with immediate effect, except for the position of the President.
The decision comes two days after the AAP leaders met in Delhi to discuss various pressing issues including the recent controversial ordinance in Parliament wherein the Centre has taken back control over bureaucracy.
“Amit Palekar will continue to function as the State President. The new organizational structure will be announced soon,” reads the ‘announcement’ letter signed by National General Secretary (Organisation) Sandeep Pathak.
Exactly a year ago, the party dissolved its working committee and appointed Palekar as its president and two MLAs Venzy Veigas and Cruz Silva as working presidents.
It also nominated six vice presidents Valmiki Naik, Surel Tilve, Ramrao Wagh, Cecille Rodrigues, Sandesh Telekar and Patricia Fernandes with AAP’s Delhi legislator in charge of Goa Atishi claiming that the committee’s restructuring is a step to ready itself for the next elections.
AAP Goa President Amit Palekar said the party is forming a new team which will consist of talented newcomers while keeping the existing members too.
"We are rejuvenating the entire team, building a new team to give fresh faces and hardworking people an opportunity. The team will have existing members also," Palekar said when contacted by The Goan on the development.
Asked if the decision to dissolve the organisation was due to non-performance of some members, the president replied in negative stating, "To get new skin, you need to shed the old" while reiterating there won't be any replacement.
"The party is gearing up for the upcoming polls and we also need people working at the grassroots level."
