Stating that his decision to go on a fast unto death is his personal one, AAP leader Adv Amit Palyekar said it has nothing to do with politics.
When questioned by The Goan that there are concerns being raised in certain quarters that the people’s movement is turning into a political one, Adv Palyekar shot back, “Though I am representing AAP, I have started the fast as a Goan. It has nothing to do with politics. Those who are talking should also join. I welcome anyone who is willing to join me, be it from the BJP, Congress, Goa Forward, Revolutionary Goans, etc. Let them come here as Goans,” Palyekar said.
“I am not here because I belong to AAP. Instead, AAP endorsed my fast unto death. It is my personal decision as a Goan, as somebody for whom Goa is a concern, the way things are happening in Goa is a concern, the way the government is acting in Goa is a concern.”
When questioned how long he will continue with the fast, Palyekar replied, “I have set one condition to the government and that is to start the process of revocation of licences. There has to be a revocation order or at least a show cause from the TCP that the license would be revoked. Till that stage doesn’t come, I will sit here.”
To a question whether he will continue his fast unto death if the government takes longer than expected, he said, “If it takes longer for the government to act, I will still continue.”
But then he posed: “Why should it take time for the government to revoke the licences when the same were issued very fast. And also, the way they have issued the licenses by manipulating and bending laws and records.”
“A common man finds it difficult to get small things done like mutation, conversion, partition, construction licences, etc.”
“Files are pending for months and years but for people from Delhi everything is done at a speed.”
He said, “I have come here with only one motto that is Goa, Goa and Goa, and to destroy this corruption, corruption and corruption,” Palyekar opined.
