The two iron women of the fast satyagraha in Old Goa who participated in the protest from day one have resolved that they won’t give up their agitation.
Ana Gracias of Chimbel and Golda Almeida of Assolna who have been fasting for 10 hours on a daily basis, for seven days now.
Speaking to The Goan, Gracias said their satyagraha is a war without weapon.
“We are hoping that God gives wisdom to the government to demolish the structure at the earliest. However, if the issue drags on even for a year, we are ready to wage a long drawn battle,” Gracias stated and informed that she would go on hunger strike if things get delayed.
On her part, Almeida said that it is her love for Goa that attracted her to the satyagraha.
“Today, it has happened in Old Goa and tomorrow it could happen in other parts, and a day will come when we become slaves in our own land,” she said and resolved that she would continue with the satyagraha till the issue reaches its logical conclusion.
Meanwhile, 72-year-old Evaristo Rodrigues who joined the fast satyagraha from second day, said that he has been supporting the agitation for five months now.
“I am in contact with the organisers and when they made a call, I decided to join the satyagraha,” Rodrigues stated.
When questioned whether his family has no problem with what he is doing, Rodrigues informed, “Initially, my wife expressed concerns but when she came to know the purpose, she was okay with it. Even my children understand as they know that it is for a good cause.”
