The work undertaken on the approach road of the Dongorim bridge. Captured by : Manuel Vaz
OLD GOA
Speaking to reporters on Friday, Wagh questioned the need to go ahead with work on the approach road on one side of the bridge.
“Even if one approach road is built, the building of the approach road on the other side is next to impossible. And even if the bridge is built as per original plans, the very purpose of helping farmers cross over to the other side will not be met as no farming is undertaken on the other side,” Wagh opined.
“First, there is a need to repair the Ofla Dongzo bundh, which is almost washed out, to enable cultivation of the khazan fields. If that is not done, there is no point in continuing with the bridge work,” Wagh added.
He further informed that it’s been 10 years now that the work on the bridge is going on and nobody knows whether it will be ever completed.
“The need of the hour is to hold a review of the bridge work and redesign it so that it serves some purpose. But if authorities stick to the original plan, it will lead to a more colossal waste of tax payers money,” he stated.
Wagh also expressed concern that once the approach road on one side is completed, then it would lead to misuse of the bridge for partying and other activities.
Wagh opposes toilet on banks of rivulet
OLD GOA: AAP leader Ramrao Wagh has voiced opposition to the construction of an open toilet built on the banks of the Dongorim rivulet, allegedly for use of labourers working on the Dongorim bridge.
“The contractor building the bridge is supposed to provide all facilities to workers from a sanitation point of view,” Wagh informed.
“However, here they have built a temporary toilet with the outlet connected to the rivulet,” Wagh stated and demanded that the toilet be demolished as the rivulet is used for fishing activities by locals.
