PANAJI: Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leaders have appealed to Goans to participate in a National Townhall on August 1 to voice their concerns over the introduction of E20 petrol.
According to the party, the townhall will bring together experts, vehicle owners and concerned citizens to discuss the impact of E20 fuel and decide the future course of its campaign against the fuel's implementation.
AAP Goa President Valmiki Naik claimed that while several states introduced E20 fuel one to two years ago, it has been available in Goa for the past six to eight months, with many consumers still unaware that they are using E20 petrol. "Many people don't even know that the petrol they are using is E20. We have seen several effects after its introduction in Goa," Naik said.
He alleged that motorists have reported reduced fuel efficiency and increased vehicle maintenance costs. "The mileage is decreasing. Some people have had to repair their vehicles, while others have suffered major losses. This is a serious issue across India and definitely in Goa as well," Naik claimed.
Naik further said that AAP National Convenor Arvind Kejriwal had written to 29 automobile manufacturers seeking clarification on whether E20 fuel reduces mileage or causes damage to vehicles. According to Naik, none of the companies responded to the queries.
The party said the August 1 townhall will provide a platform for citizens to share their experiences and discuss possible action on the issue.
