Attempts to abduct minors in two separate abduction attempts were foiled in Korgao-Pernem and Mapusa.
While one person has been arrested in connection with the attempted abduction in Mapusa, alert locals nabbed one of two abductors in the attempted abduction in Korgao-Pernem and handed him over to police.
PERNEM
The incident in Pernem took place on Friday evening, when two persons riding a bike stopped near a house at Sukalwada-Korgao. One person suddenly grabbed a 2-year-old boy playing in the gallery and took the boy towards his accomplice on the two-wheeler.
An alert local noticed the incident and raised an alarm. Other locals and passers-by nabbed the accused, while the accomplice managed to flee from the site. The accused was later handed over to the Pernem police. Further investigation is in progress.
MAPUSA
A 62-year-old man from Bastora was arrested by Mapusa police on Friday on charges of attempting to abduct a minor girl in his car.
According to reports, the incident took place on the main road in Mapusa on Wednesday, when the 17-year-old girl was walking home after her tuition classes.
The accused, Gajanan Matkar, suddenly dragged the girl into his car. The panic-stricken girl tried to open the door and the accused stopped the car a short distance ahead and left the girl on the road, before fleeing away.
The girl reached home and reported the matter to her parents. The girl’s father lodged a complaint with Mapusa police and a case was registered against the suspect under Sections 137, 127 and Section 8 of the Goa Juvenile Act.
On Friday, Mapusa police arrested Matkar and also seized the car which was allegedly used in the offence. Mapusa police are conducting further investigation under the guidance of Police Inspector Nikhil Palekar.
