Accident prone western bypass traffic junction at Belem-Navelim was back in the news on Thursday after a truck knocked down a couple of two-wheelers.
A roadside cross also fell on the ground after the vehicle hit the pedestal.
While the PWD, National Highway had installed the traffic signals to regulate traffic at the bypass junction to prevent the accidents, Thursday’s accident has again brought back to sharp focus that issues are far from over at the site.
Locals pointed out that the truck transporting heavy goods dashed against around four two-wheelers, before it crashed on the wall.
While the two-wheeler riders escaped with minor injuries, irate locals directed their ire at the truck driver for driving in a negligent manner.
The western bypass junction at Belem-Navelim has been in the news since it was opened for traffic in view of the number of accidents taking place at the site.
In fact, the village panchayats of Navelim and Telaulim have adopted resolutions demanding a flyover at the bypass junction to rule out accidents.
The site was also inspected by PWD Minister Nilesh Cabral after taking over the reins of office.
