The culverts over the Colva creek, which paves the way for thousands of visitors to the world famous Colva beach, is craving for attention.
The culvert on the left hand side of the entrance is damaged. While a portion of the culvert has caved in, the concrete railings of the culvert towards the beach side has given way for want of maintenance.
The damaged culvert had come to light during the joint inspection of the Colva beach by officials of the Tourism and GTDC with petitioner in the High Court, Judith Almeida. Though the inspection of the beach was primarily to take stock of the overall situation, including garbage disposal and functioning of the STP, the Tourism officials have taken note of the damaged condition of the culvert.
In fact, a tourism official said since the work to restore the culvert is of civil nature, the same will be taken up on priority.
Locals had complained that the culvert poses danger as a small portion has caved in, raising fears that the crater may leave the visitors injured.
Questions are being raised why the Tourism department had allowed the damage to continue for a long time now, since it was only after the safety of the visitors, but had given a bad look to the place.
