Firemen douse fire at Aquem-Baixo p’yat waste shed

Margao fire brigade rushed to Aquem-Baixo on Thursday evening after waste in a shed owned by the panchayat caught fire.

There was no machinery housed in the shed and the place was used for waste storage.

The fire brigade used a tender to bring the fire under control.

The fire gave some anxious moments for the panchayat members as the waste shed is located adjoining the panchayat ghar.

MARGAOThe Margao Municipal Council has decided to cash in on the eight-day Purumentachem feast at the Old market, beginning from Sunday to enrich its coffers.The MMC has capped a fixed price of Rs 4,700 per stall, inclusive of the garbage collection fees and hopes to earn a minimum Rs 10 lakh from the feast fair.MMC officials pointed out that the revenue may touch Rs 12-13 lakh if all the stalls at stake are grabbed by the hawkers/vendors.After delaying for days now,…
