Accidents mark New Year, 1st on new Zuari Bridge flyover

PANAJI

New Year's day in 2023 was no different from many in the past as a number of road accidents were reported mostly linked to revellers travelling back in wee hours and most notably one on the northern side flyover of the new Zuari bridge at Agacaim.

At least three other major accidents in different parts of the State have been reported, including a fatal one at Guddemal in Sanvordem where 59-year-old scooter rider Shyamsunder Tendulkar died in a collision with a car.

The accident on the Agacaim side flyover of the new Zuari bridge was a self-accident reportedly caused as the driver dozed on the wheel. Three occupants of the car which is said to have turned turtle fortunately escaped with minor injuries.

At Verna-Nuvem, two cars landed in a field alongside the highway after a collision. One of the drivers suffered injuries and was shifted to a nearby hospital by locals even before the police and ambulance could arrive.

In yet another accident reported at Corlim on the Panaji-Ponda highway, a collision between two cars resulted in injuries to three occupants, including two who suffered bone fractures.
