Another day and another accident left two injured, but led to an unfortunate death of a patient being transported in the ambulance.
In a tragic incident, an ambulance, which was transporting a seriously injured person was in a head-on collision with a Maruti van, trapping the van driver and injuring an ambulance attendant.
Unfortunately, the seriously injured patient who was being transported to the North Goa District Hospital later succumbed to injuries at the Goa Medical College and Hospital.
Police informed that the mishap occurred at around 5 pm on Tuesday.
The van which was heading towards Gavar-Aldona on reaching near the Jagbai temple, Uccasaim, veered on the wrong side and crashed head-on against the ambulance, which was proceeding to Mapusa, police informed.
The van driver, Thomas Rodrigues was trapped inside the van, while the ambulance attendant sustained minor injuries.
On getting information, Mapusa fire officials rushed to the site and rescued the van driver, who was later rushed to the North Goa District Hospital with a leg fracture. The ambulance attendant was treated at the Aldona Primary Health Centre.
Meanwhile, the deceased patient, Dilip Ghadi from Aldona, who had sustained serious injuries from a tree fall was being rushed to the North Goa District Hospital in the ill-fated ambulance.
Since the ambulance met with the accident, the family members of the patient, who were following the ambulance decided to shift the patient directly to the Goa Medical College. Later in the evening, the patient succumbed to injuries while undergoing medical treatment at the GMC.
Mapusa Police conducted the panchanama and registered an offence of rash driving. Further investigations are in progress.
