Accounts dept is the heart of govt: CM

Chief Minister Pramod Sawant on Tuesday said the accounts department is the heart of the government and needed to keep pace with new technology to handle technological advancements like digitisation, eCommerce.

Sawant was speaking after laying the foundation stone for the Lekha Bhavan, the Administrative Complex for Directorate of Accounts at Porvorim, at a cost of Rs 38.75 crore.

He said the directorate is presently functioning from a 195-year-old building, which is congested and not conducive for functioning at ease, making it the need of the hour for new premises.

Others present at the event included GSIDC Vice-Chairperson and Mapusa MLA Joshua D’Souza, Porvorim MLA Rohan Khaunte, ZP North Goa President Kartik Kudanekar, ZP Member Kavita Naik, Penha de Franca Sarpanch Swapnil Chodankar, Chief Secretary, Principal Secretary (Finance) Puneet Goel, GSIDC Managing Director Harish Adconkar, Director of Directorate of Account Dilip Humraskar and Deputy Director Accounts Ulhas Naik.

The proposed building is a four-storied building with a basement. The total built-up area is 10,670 sq metres and will house various administrative departments.

The project will have a Training hall for 340 persons, canteen, Bank, ATM and basement parking for 73 cars and 45 two-wheelers.

The building is divided into three sections and two service core connected by a central corridor and lobby.

The canteen and ATM are provided on the ground level, while the training hall is located at uppermost level. A modular approach has been adopted for planning within the Departments, mainly driven by the flow of interaction required between the main officers & assisting officers.
