Nilesh Desai of Dodamarg in Sindhudurg-Maharashtra has been booked with another offence in the acid attack of a minor boy at Dhargal, after he was accused of having stolen 20 litres of sulphuric acid from a company at the Tivim Industrial Estate in Mapusa.

A senior manager of the company filed a complaint with Mapusa police stating that Desai, who was working in the housekeeping section of the company, had stolen a 20-litre can of sulphuric acid from the company premises.

The sulphuric acid is believed to have been stolen sometime between June 28 and 30.

Incidentally, the accused began working in the company barely eight days prior to the incident at Dhargal.

Acting on the complaint, Mapusa police registered a case against the accused and is conducting investigating into the matter.

The accused had allegedly flung acid on a 17-year-old boy, while he was waiting for bus to proceed to his higher secondary school at about 7.45 am on June 30. The boy was seriously injured in the acid attack and is undergoing treatment at GMC hospital.

Police had arrested Desai from the company later in the day. During investigations into the acid attack, police found out that the accused had brought the acid from the company and had, accordingly, informed the company management in the matter.
