Saligao police have arrested a 32-year-old man from Uttarakhand in connection with a chain-snatching robbery at a shop in Nova Cidade Enclave, Porvorim.
The accused, Abdul Rehman, and an accomplice went to the shop of Medha Agashikar (62) around 8.30 am on Christmas Day. He asked for a cold drink and, when she turned to fetch it, snatched her 35-gram gold chain and fled. The woman fell and suffered minor injuries.
The incident was recorded on CCTV. During the probe, police learnt that Rehman had fled to Sarai Aziz, Uttarakhand.
A Saligao police team, with help from Manglaur-Haridwar police, arrested him on December 31. He was brought to Goa on transit remand and sent to four days’ police custody.
