Super8 OTT Tiatr Awards honour best of Konkani theatre online

The Super8 OTT Tiatr Awards 2025 were held with much enthusiasm on January 2 at the Ravindra Bhavan Conference Hall, Margao, celebrating outstanding achievements in Konkani tiatr presented on the digital platform SUPER8OTT. The event highlighted the growing role of online platforms in taking Konkani theatre to a wider audience.

The programme was organised and presented by Joywin Fernandes, founder of Super8 OTT, who said that the awards were introduced to recognise tiatrs released digitally. He clarified that only tiatrs uploaded on the Super8 OTT website during 2025 were considered. While the nominations were selected by him, the final winners were chosen through public voting to ensure transparency and audience participation.

Rev Fr Ermito Rebello attended the function as the chief guest. In his address, he appreciated the initiative taken by Super8 OTT to preserve Konkani tiatr in changing times and urged artistes to continue creating socially meaningful and culturally rooted productions.

A special moment of the evening was the presentation of the ‘Promoting Konkani Stage Heritage Award’ to Joseph Pacceli Pereira for his dedicated contribution as a tiatr reviewer writing for newspapers. His regular reviews have helped promote tiatr, guide audiences and document Konkani stage productions. An emotional Pereira thanked the organisers while accepting the honour and expressed his continued support for Konkani tiatr.

The event was compered by Comedian Agostinho, Benzer, Vilban, Rioma, Aplon and John D’Silva, whose lively interaction and humour kept the audience engaged.

The ceremony also featured entertaining performances by Olga Vaz, Mukesh Gatwal, Peter–Roshan, Lawry Travasso, Sheena Gracias, Rioma and Myron, Jose Mascarenhas, Francis de Tuem, Rosario de Benaulim, Avers and Avalency, Soccor de Santa Cruz, Tony de Ribandar and Prajakta Kavlekar, Comedian Aston, and Rizma.

Several awards were presented to recognise excellence in acting, music, writing and direction. Princy Alemao and Francis Rebello won Best Supporting Actor (Female and Male) for Ger’rak Nhoi Vor’rak Melo. Carmen Barbosa for Sunnem and Franky Gonsalves for Chiklantalim Fulam received Best Actor in Negative Role (Female and Male). Norman Cardozo was named Best Music Director, while Myron JR Correia and Rioma Menezes won Best Duo/Duet, both for Chiklantalim Fulam.

The Best Trio Award went to Tuem de Tuem, Tony de Ribandar and Alijoy Fernandes, composed by Francis de Tuem, from the tiatr Taj Mahal Kosollttolem Kai?. Shanice Rebecca Vas and Francis de Tuem were awarded Best Singer (Female and Male). Fiona Costa and Riston Gomes received comedy honours for Ger’rak Nhoi Vor’rak Melo.

Prince Jacob won Best Story for St Padre Pio, which also bagged the Best Tiatr Award. Francis de Tuem was honoured with Best Dialogues, Lawry Travasso was named Best Director, and Comedian Agostinho won Best Writer for Mhoji Maim Mhojim Sasumaim. The top acting awards were claimed by Antonieta D’Melo as Best Actor (Female) for Chiklantalim Fulam and Ulhas Tari as Best Actor (Male) for Ger’rak Nhoi Vor’rak Melo.
