A portion of the wall of the Goa Velha structure being taken down during the demolition operations on Thursday following a High Court order. Captured by : Manuel Vaz
OLD GOA
The HC has apparently given time till December 15 for authorities to complete the demolition of the structure.
Accordingly, the demolition was fixed on Thursday by the Goa Velha panchayat, for which officials from the Tiswadi BDO, Mamlatdar, PWD demolition squad, Agassaim police, and others remained present.
After completing the procedure, the demolition was commenced. However, as it was a ground plus one structure, only a portion of a wall was taken down.
The demolition squad authorities assessed that there was a need for a demolition crane so that the structure could be demolished from the top.
The authorities felt that the JCB machine, which was brought for the demolition, would not be able to complete the task as if the demolition was started from the bottom, the top portion would collapse thereby posing danger to the JCB operator.
Finally, it was decided to postpone the demolition and resume the same only after procuring a demolition crane.
The authorities informed that the next date for resuming the demolition would be decided once the demolition crane is available.
