Action sought against Chimbel panch under SC Act; DGP petitioned

OLD GOA
RGP leader Ajay Kholkar has petitioned the Director General of Police (DGP) Jaspal Singh and has sought action against Chimbel panch under The Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act, 1989.

The petition was submitted by Kholkar to DGP Singh, on Thursday, in the presence of MLA Viresh Borkar, RGP supremo Manoj Parab and other leaders of the party.

It may be recalled that Kholkar had filed a complaint against the Chimbel panch at the Old Goa police on Wednesday stating that the panch had threatened to kill him while also using abusive language against him.

Later, speaking to reporters, Kholkar said that the panch called him by the Scheduled Tribe that he belongs to and hence he has demanded that action be taken against him under the Act.

In his petition, Kholkar has given details of the words used by the panch against him, including the utterances of bad words.

He has further cited the duties of the police to protect rights of the victim under the Act, which includes registration of FIR, provision of FIR copy, conduct of investigation, spot inspection by officers, taking steps for protection of victim and dependents, etc.

Meanwhile, speaking on the counter complaint lodged against him by the accused panch, Kholkar said that the police should get the CCTV footage from the Chimbel panchayat which will clearly show what transpired on the day of the incident.

“It is also surprising that the sarpanch and the panchayat secretary have sided with the panch despite being witnesses to the incident,” Kholkar chided and informed that he won’t back down till justice is served.
