Active Covid cases at Margao UHC show decline, officials surprised

MARGAO
The way active Covid cases were just rising in the Margao Urban Health area jurisdiction, many might have thought that Covid cases in the commercial capital would cross the 3,000-figure on Thursday.

But, in a trend that has even completely taken Margao Urban Health officials by surprise, active Covid cases at the health centre have showed a decline by around 343 cases in the last 24 hours.

This has thrown up a question or two for the local health officials whether the decline in cases is on account of the ongoing lockdown or simply good up in the numbers.

The sharp drop in the Covid cases has even taken the health officials by surprise as there’s no stop to the beeline made by Covid positive patients or their relatives at the health centre to claim the home isolation kits.

In fact, if the total number of active Covid cases at the Margao  Urban Health area were pegged at 2,842 cases on Wednesday, the health bulletin issued on Thursday put the number of cases to 2,499, suggesting a drop in the case by 343. That’s not all. Health officials were also taken aback on Wednesday when the health bulletin showed a rise of only five cases.

Health officials in the know informed that around 150 people came to the Margao Urban Health Centre with Covid positive reports to claim their home isolation kits. “Even assuming that some of these people did not receive the home isolation kits in the past, not all the 150 persons who took their kits were infected by coronavirus in the past,” informed a health officer.

The official added: “The way we see the ground situation, cases have not come down till date despite the lockdown. We do not know how the cases have declined over the last 24 hours when people stand in a line to collect their home isolation kits.”
