ESI hospital reserves 5 beds for GMC’s critically-ill patients

MARGAO
The ESI hospital, Margao on late Thursday reserved five beds for patients, who were being shifted from the Goa Medical College and hospital in order to make way for beds for the critically-ill patients at the premier hospital at Bambolim.

Just six beds were available at the ESI hospital at around 9 pm, with Medical Superintendent Dr Vishwajit Faldesai saying a number of patients have been waiting in the casualty with the hope of getting a bed in the hospital.

Sources informed that the ESI hospital received a message from the GMC that the hospital is discharging five patients to make way for critically ill patients to occupy the beds at the premier hospital. The five patients, who will be discharged from the GMC are termed as stable and on the way to recovery.

Unlike the GMC, Bambolim, the ESI hospital, Margao has so far not faced any problem over the supply of oxygen. Despite the fact that ESI hospital has no liquid oxygen facility, the total requirement of oxygen for the patients in the ESI hospital is being met by the supply from the Cuncolim Industrial estate.

Sources informed that the district authorities led by Sub-Divisional Magistrate, Margao, Jyoti Kumari coordinates and closely monitor the oxygen supply to the ESI hospital to ensure there’s no shortage of oxygen for the patients. In fact, Deputy Collector makes regular rounds of the ESI hospital as well as the oxygen plant at the Cuncolim Industrial Estate to make sure there’s no stop to the supply of oxygen to the hospital.

Of the total 229 patients admitted in the ESI hospital on Thursday, around 137 patients were on oxygen, indicating that oxygen supply to the hospital is critical to the survival of the patients.

Officials further pointed out that around 21 of the 229 patients are being administered Remdesivir medicine, while eight patients are undergoing dialysis in the hospital.
