VALPOI: The rainstorm on Wednesday did not merely damage houses, property, plantations and affect services in many parts of Sattari, it has led to an acute water shortage in many villages since the last two days.
While the electricity department has been working over time to repair the damaged poles and cables, the disrupted power supply has adversely affected the Dabose water treatment plant which has been unable to supply water to many villages since the last two days, forcing the affected residents to rely on water tankers for their daily requirements.
Angry locals claimed that they had made repeated demands for a generator set at the Dabose water treatment plant to facilitate water supply in the event of erratic power supply, but their demands were not addressed.
When contacted, Valpoi AE (water supply) Eknath Paste said a proposal to set up a generator in the absence of power supply had already been submitted to higher authorities.
“A generator is essential for smooth operations, especially during the rainy season,” Paste said.
Critical of the government for failing to supply uninterrupted power supply at Dabose water treatment plant, social activist Vishwesh Parab said the government authorities should have been serious about ensuring proper and adequate water supply in Sattari taluka.
