MARGAO
As peace lay shattered in the communally sensitive Housing Board on Sunday noon, the Goa police have requisitioned additional forces, including Indian Reserve Battalion (IRB) personnel to maintain a vigil at the Rumdamol and the adjoining Gogol Housing Board as a precautionary measure.
Security was further tightened in view of the India-Pakistan cricket match played at Dubai later in the evening.
While the men-in-uniform from the police stations of Maina-Curtorim, Fatorda and Margao took up positions at sensitive localities of the two housing boards immediately after the group clash, the Maina Curtorim police later sent an SOS to the police higher-ups to send at least 50 additional personnel, including an IRB platoon to the Housing Boards on an urgent basis.
Maina-Curtorim police station in-charge, PI Kapil Nayak, who is holding additional charge of the police station, said the police is not taking any chances. “We have requisitioned for additional forces for deployment at the two housing boards as a precautionary measure. We expect the additional forces to come to the area later in the night,” he said.
The police seemed taking no chances in the two housing boards after the clash between two groups at the Rumdamol housing board.
Margao Sub-divisional Police officer, DySP Salim Sheikh, also visited the Housing Board to take stock of the situation.
