Admissions for Covid reduce, hospitals breathe easy in Margao

MARGAO
Around 268 beds were available on Sunday at the two Margao Covid facilities -- South Goa district and ESI hospitals -- indicating the reduction in the admission rate.

While as many as 202 beds were available in the South Goa district hospital, another 66 vacant beds were available at the ESI hospital on Sunday evening.

Officials attributed the increasing bed capacity to the reduction in the number of admissions.

Consider the scenario at the ESI hospital. The number of new admissions at the hospital was pegged at around 26. At the same time, the hospital discharged around 21 patients from the hospital on Sunday.

As on Sunday evening, the number of patients admitted to the ESI hospital was put at 171, leaving around 66 beds vacant.

Of the total patients, 99 patients were on oxygen and 15 on Remdesivir. Doctors pointed out that the improving situation will further improve the oxygen supply to the hospital.

The ESI hospital had increased its bed strength to 235 at the height of the second wave. The situation was no better at the South Goa district hospital. The number of beds available in the district hospital has only gone up in the last five days.

Hospital Nodal Officer Dr Rajesh Patil attributed the prevailing situation to the reduction in the admissions as well as the bed augmentation by around 60 late last week.
