MARGAO
Carmona VP at a meeting on Saturday resolved to extend the lockdown in the village for another period 15 days from May 24 to June 7.
Sarpanch Allwyn Jorge said the panchayat will be writing to all the shop owners to strictly follow the rules of social distancing and refuse to entertain customers who don’t wear masks.
The sarpanch said the VP is arranging vaccination camps which are scheduled on May 24 and 25. “Due to the pro-active measures of the VP, cases have come down to about 40 from over 100,” he added.
The sarpanch said though the government extended the curfew till May 31, it would have been better if it had gone for a total lockdown for a minimum period of one month with only grocery shops open and all non-essential activities shut.
Meanwhile, the Jorge informed that the VP has already started work of clearing all drainage and nallahs.
“We are still waiting for the follow-up action from the local MLA Churchill Alemao’s office on the list we had submitted for desilting of ponds and nallahs through the WRD,” he said.
