A day after a group of villagers claimed hill cutting in the village, Paroda Sarpanch Deepak Kharangate on Sunday said he would write a letter to the Town and Country Planning department and the Deputy Collector, Margao, for an inspection of the site before initiating action.
While the villagers on Saturday led by Gabriel Fernandes had alleged that local MLA Clafacio Dias was behind the alleged hill cutting, on Sunday the latter descended on the site to demand inspection of the site by the TCP and the Deputy Collector, Margao. “I challenge anyone to prove that hill is being cut by me in violation of the TCP rules,” he said, adding, “Let the NGOs also come and inspect the site to bring out the truth.”
While saying that a road is being constructed at the site for the benefit of the residents staying at Zoriwaddo, Clafacio said this has been a long-pending demand.
The inspection carried out by the Sarpanch and the MLA on Sunday saw residents of Zoriwaddo at the site demanding construction of the road.
Sarpanch Deepak Kharangate informed said, “I have assumed office only a month ago. After inspection of the site on Sunday along with the MLA, I have decided to write a letter to the TCP and the Deputy Collector to conduct a site inspection.”
The group of villagers led by Gabriel had on Saturday alleged the hill cutting was being done to house migrants in the area.
