Considering the criticality of oxygen for Covid patients during the second wave of the virus, Deputy Chief Minister Chandrakant (Babu) Kavlekar has arranged a van with five oxygen concentrators powered by two generators and emergency medicines.
Inaugurating the service, Kavlekar said, “No life should be lost even in rural Goa. Every life is precious and we have learned from Cyclone Tauktae we have to be prepared for even worst situations that may arise due to lack of power and transport.”
Speaking further, the Dy CM said, “Learning from the experiences, we decided to get this custom-fitted van from Mumbai. This will serve not only the Quepem taluka, but also Canacona, Sanguem, Dharbandora and Salcete. People can call any of our helpline numbers that are manned 24 hours to avail the service.”
Thanking Kavlekar, Chairperson of Quepem council, Suchita Shirvaikar, said, “The Dy CM has not left no stone unturned in getting the best for Covid patients in Quepem. Patients can access doctors 24 hours, including visits by private consultants. There are dispensers with water filters, 50 oxygen beds with saline if required, free meals and free medicines. This has helped reduce the burden on the government,” she said.
