Adv Pereira was admitted to the SMRC, Chicalim early on August 2 after he complained of severe breathing problems and was in unconscious state since then.
Dubbed as champion of the oppressed by his colleagues and friends, Adv Pereira worked tirelessly for the cause of labour rights in the state. The political activist was known for the integrity of his character and his dedication to the fight for justice waged by the working class in various sectors of Goa's economy.
A resident of Vasco, Adv Pereira completed his school education at the Municipal High School, Vasco and later at the Don Bosco higher secondary school. He then studied at the MES College in Vasco. During his days in college, Adv Pereira was a prominent member of the Progressive Students' Union movement.
The untimely departure of this soft-spoken gentleman, who strove behind the scenes for the success of several labour movements, has left a void in the communist party and in the labour rights movement of the state.
Meanwhile, the Centre of Indian Trade Unions (Goa State Committee), Goa Mine Workers Union, All Goa General Employees Union, and various other unions have condoled the death of Thalmann Gerard Pereira.
"We have lost a totally dedicated and committed lifelong communist leader, friend and comrade", says a press note issued by the Goa State Organizing Committee of the Communist Party of India (Marxist).
The funeral procession will commence at 4.30 pm on August 7 from his residence at Karma Complex, Vaddem, Vasco ( Near Pai Hospital) and proceed to the Vasco Crematorium via the Party Office at Dr Mukunda Building, Swatantra Path, Vasco.
