MARGAO
The Tata Memorial Hospital and Konkan Railway Corporation Ltd have arranged the Goa Tour for children cancer patients. The annual programme has been supported by the Goa Tourism Development Corporation.
Santosh V, a Junior Administrative Officer of the Tata Memorial Hospital, Mumbai said the hospital has been arranging the tour for children suffering from cancer in collaboration with the Konkan Railway Corporation. “The Konkan Railway arranges a special bogey in its train for the cancer patients. This programme has been supported by the Goa Tourism Department by providing the patients with food and transportation in the state,” he said.
He said it normally takes around 7-9 months for the children to undergo the treatment at the hospital, saying the entire exercise of bringing the patients to Goa is to bring them to a new environment, where they visit the temples, churches, besides the beaches during their visit.
“The people of Goa have always supported the programme by extending their hospitality to these children,” he added.
One of the children told The Goan at the Margao Railway Station soon after alighting from the train that he is thrilled to visit Goa, saying he is visiting the State for the first time ever.
