Benaulim witnessed an uproar on Thursday noon after agitated residents stopped work on the construction of a mobile tower in a field at Pedda.
The residents rushed to the site and told the machine operator to immediately stop the work. They demanded to know how the tower can be set up in a field, claiming the land in question is a comunidade owned land.
Saying the residents of the area are totally opposed to a mobile tower from being installed in the field, they demanded that the company immediately shelve the plans and shift the tower to a new location.
The residents have warned of an agitation if the company does not pay heed to the pleas of the villagers. They also warned the party which has invited the company to set up the tower to withdraw the permission, if any.
