Leader of Opposition and Margao MLA Digambar Kamat has expressed satisfaction over the outcome of Wednesday’s high level meeting chaired by Chief Minister Pramod Sawant giving the go-ahead signal to start the long-delayed Margao Bus terminus project in phases without going in for the Public Private Partnership (PPP) model.
Underlining the need to preserve the land for posterity, Kamat said he had always insisted on a non-PPP model to protect the interest of the state as a PPP model results in the property rights passing to the developer.
The meeting attended by Transport Minister Mauvin Godinho, KTC Chairman, Carlos Almeida and the two local MLAs, Margao MLA Digambar Kamat and Fatorda MLA Vijai Sardesai and others regarding construction of Bus Terminus at Margao had taken a decision that the government will take up the first phase of the project at an estimated cost of Rs 70 crores.
“It is important to preserve the land for posterity. I always emphasised on non-PPP model,” Kamat said.
Expressing happiness that the much-needed project will move ahead after nine long years, Kamat hoped the government will expedite the procedural formalities to ensure that actual work commences soon.
It was on Dussehra day way back in 2011 when he was the state’s Chief Minister, the Margao MLA had laid the foundation stone for the ultra-modern bus stand for Margao, a project which was soon buried in the dusty government files following a change of guard in the 2012 Assembly election after the return of Manohar Parrikar as the state’s Chief Minister.
