The State government on Wednesday set itself November and December deadlines to repair potholes on roads in a bulky report it filed before the Bombay High Court.
In the report running into nearly a 100 pages filed by Advocate General Devidas Pangam, the government detailed stretches of National Highways, State Highways and also several Major District Roads and village roads where potholes have ruined them. It also listed whether these potholes have been filled and if not, a timeline when it proposes to complete the repairs.
The government also listed a number of ‘new roads’ which are under construction and are slated to be completed by March 2020 in the report filed before the High Court on Wednesday.
The High Court meanwhile converted the public interest litigation instituted following a petition filed by Pradeep Padgaonkar, State secretary of AAP, into a ‘suo mottu’ petition after Pangam raised objection to the petitioners using the proceedings for “politcal propaganda” and mileage.
The Court said it will appoint an ‘amicus curae’ to assist the court and fixed the next hearing for December 16.
Earlier on Monday, the High Court had given the State two days to provide a detailed reply on the repair of the pothole-ridden roads.
Slammed by the commuting public for the pathetic, potholed roads across Goa, the State government had come in for some stern treatment from the judiciary with a Bench of the Bombay High Court in Goa asking the Advocate General Devidas Pangam to file a detailed report within two days on what repair work it has done and intends to do.
Pangam had told the Court that the government was taking steps to repair the roads but he was directed to file a detailed submission in two days on the exact steps taken.
