The decision taken at a meeting of the Council chaired by Chairperson Polita Carneiro on Friday assumes significance and comes against the backdrop of reports that the municipal hall is not much in demand from the entertainment industry for want of air-condition facility. Municipal officials in the know informed that tiatr producers and artists in general have been avoiding the Cuncolim municipal hall for want of air-condition facility.
Though the municipal hall was constructed at a huge cost, no provision was made for air-conditioned facility with the GSUDA only making provision of water cooling facility, which failed to serve the purpose.
The meeting also resolved to take up a host of development works across the 12 municipal wards with government grants amounting to Rs 3 crore. Though the government has not yet dispatched the grant to the civic body, the municipality has been told to avail the funds before August.
Meanwhile, the Council has further resolved to avail benefit of the gymnasium under MPLAD  scheme of Rajya Sabha MP Shantaram Naik. The gymnasium will be housed in the municipal building.
