MARGAO
The men-in-Khaki took up positions on the streets and markets in the commercial capital and its suburbs to enforce the three-day lockdown announced by the government in its bid arrest the rising number of Covid cases in the state.

The city roads wore a deserted look by 7 pm with people heading back to their destinations after shopping and other activities. Shops and business establishments started pulling down their shutters at 7 in the evening, even though there was no clarity whether the shops could remain open till 10 pm.

While armed policemen made their presence felt along the Station Road at around 5 pm, they were nowhere to be seen around 7 pm when liqour joints, besides wholesale liqour outlets were either found open or were bracing up to shut down in areas near and around the Station Road.

Margao Police personnel also took positions at the Navelim traffic junction with barricades, bringing memories of last year’s lockdown when the barricades were used to regulate the traffic flow and helped the men-in-uniform to enforce the lockdown.

Police officials in the know informed that nakabandis would be conducted in their respective jurisdictions starting late Thursday night for effective implementation of the lockdown.
