MARGAO
Even as people find it difficult to get unrestricted drinking water in many parts of the state, old water lines continue to contribute to water wastage elsewhere.
An old underground water pipeline on the border between Navelim and Margao behind the Navelim Church once again gave way, probably on Wednesday night, resulting in the huge wastage of water. This is not the first time that the line has ruptured, disrupting water supply to the residents and contributing to the wastage of water.
The PWD officials, who were intimated about the water wastage from the damaged line, reached the site only after 10 am, indicating that thousands of litres of water must have gushed out of the damaged pipeline on the road, before flowing into an adjoining drain.
When 'The Goan' called up a PWD official, he admitted that the pipeline was damaged once again, resulting in the water wastage. He said the PWD has now decided to render the pipeline dead and shift the household connections to another line which was already laid some time back.
“This is an old underground water pipeline which has been giving problems in recent times. The pipeline gets damaged as it cannot withstand pressure. We have now decided to render the line dead and shift the connections on the other line”, informed a PWD, Water supply official.
Till Thursday evening, the workers on the job to repair the damaged line.
