Thanks to Environment Minister Aleixo Sequeira, all the 26 washrooms at the Matanhy Saldanha Administrative building in the imposing South Goa Collectorate building have been repaired and made functional after nine long years.
Sequeira has now set his focus on the Margao Urban Health Centre building, where the repairs have been just dragging on since July 2023 when the façade of the heritage building had crumbled during heavy rains.
“I am happy that at last, after nine long years, all the toilets in the Matanhy Saldanha Administrative Complex are back in working condition. This will go a long way in mitigating the hardships faced by the citizens,” he said.
With the Margao Urban Health Centre coming under his scanner, the Minister said he had to locate the file of the work allotted by the PWD to repair the damaged building. After locating the file, the contractor has now given the assurance that the balance repair work will commence from January 21,” Sequeira added.
The Environment Minister said the Goa State Pollution Control Board will hold a special drive at the South Collectorate to facilitate business establishments to apply and obtain consent to operate business. This assumes significance given that the GSPCB has gone about sealing establishments for lack of consent to operate.
The Minister also took a review of the sewerage works at the SGPDA market as well as the Collectorate complex as per the projects sanctioned by the government.
