“Shopkeepers too are violating rules by displaying their products on the footpaths,” Parab added.“Law is applicable to all and it should not be enforced on a particular section. I want to bring it to the notice of Chairperson Deepak Naik that shopkeepers should also be dealt with in the same measure,” he asserted.Parab, however, said he was waiting to discuss the subject with Naik, who has not been attending office since the last two days. “There are other citizens visiting the council to meet Naik and solve their problems,” added Parab.“When Naik comes to the office, I will request him to add shopkeepers encroachments on the agenda for the next council meeting,” he said.“Besides encroachments on footpath by shopkeepers, I also want Naik to review security of MMC building as unwanted elements occupy the corridors of the building at night,” Parab said.

VASCO: Mormugao Municipal Council Chairperson Deepak Naik hasn t been attendting office for the last two days.Vice-chairperson, Shashikant Parab, said, “I have been trying to call Naik, but he has not answered my phone calls. I do not know where he is, but I feel he should at least respond to our calls.”Efforts to contact Naik on his mobile phone also proved futile as he did not answer the calls.
