MAPUSA
In what appears to be the never ending woes of Mapusa, after facing irregular water supply last month, the town has been experiencing erratic power supply for the last couple of days.
Several parts of Mapusa witnessed power cuts from the wee hours of Sunday which continued throughout the day till late in the evening.
Power supply went off at regular intervals after every one hour and at times even after minutes causing much distress to consumers considering its effect on the electrical gadgets.
The areas of Duler, Shettya-vaddo, Peddem and Kamarkhazan were the worst affected.
Angry residents slammed the power department for failing to maintain regular supply even when there was no heavy rain or windy condition.
“We have been without power for almost three hours since noon. Don’t understand why this is happening when we pay such hefty power bills. We expect better services from the department,” said a resident of Peddem, Mapusa.
According to department officials, a technical fault on HT lines had caused the disruption in the electricity supply to some areas in the town.
“The possible reason is a puncture in an insulator on the HT line. It's a rather tedious job because we have to check each and every pole in the area. We are trying to locate the fault. But in the meantime we have re-routed the supply to the area from another feeder,” the department official informed.
But aggrieved residents complained that power cuts continued throughout the day making it difficult for them to operate electrical appliances.
