The long-standing demand to open the 100-bed hospital at Tuem linked to Goa Medical College (GMC) has resurfaced, and locals have restarted their protest to get the hospital opened as soon as possible for better healthcare in Pernem.

Under the banner of the Tuem Hospital Action Committee, residents have resumed their awareness campaign in the village, putting up banners and posters urging the government to start the hospital immediately.

The next phase of the protest involves distributing leaflets and putting up boards, which began in the market on Friday. Posters are being displayed in light of the upcoming Ganesh Chaturthi to draw more attention from the community.

Members of the Action Committee, including Vijay Lobo, Tulshidas Raut, Devendra Prabhudesai, Rajmun Shetye, Vyankatesh Naik, Bhaskar Narulkar, Jagannath Desai, and Manohar Pednekar, attended the launch event.

The hospital was built during the time of former Chief Minister Laxmikant Parsekar, but the appointments of doctors, nurses, and other staff, as well as the installation of medical equipment, have not yet been completed.

The building has been neglected for the past seven years, prompting the Committee to revive the issue and push the government to take action and open the hospital.
