Agnelo ready to be agent of change in Saligao

Says he will support Sequeira in Calangute

MAPUSA
GPCC General Secretary and former Calangute MLA Agnelo Fernandes on Wednesday said he was ready to be the agent of change in Saligao, as BJP has managed to only bring about cosmetic change in the village.
He also said that he was a loyal party worker and although a tad sad for failing to bag the Calangute seat, he would work for the Congress candidate there all the same.
“With the support of senior Congress leaders like Trajano D’Mello, Tulio de Souza and many others who are expected to join me very soon, I am sure to put it across the tourism minister,” Fernandes said.
The GPCC general secretary was speaking to journalists after filing his nomination papers for the Saligao seat.
He said besides the Saligao circle, no development works worth the salt has been carried out in the village.
“The BJP-led government has only carried out some cosmetic change by widening some roads, building circles and putting up
fancy lights,” he said, ridiculing the BJP’s attempt at the fag end of the term to influence voters.
Fernandes also said he was unhappy for having been denied the ticket in Calangute, but as a loyal worker will work for the party nominee there.
“As a loyal worker of the party, I will work for Congress candidate in Calangute,” he said.
Almost 37 candidates filed their papers from the seven constituencies in Bardez on the last day of filing the nominations.
Apart from former MLA Agnelo Fernandes who filed his nomination on Congress ticket, at least four candidates filed nominations on the NCP ticket.

CANACONA “I will not back out even though pressure is being being built on our team to withdraw. Our booth workers who resigned en masse to support my candidature are being pressurized by the BJP to work for its candidate, who is not acceptable to anyone,” said Tawadkar, while interacting with media persons.   “Besides, why should a winning candidate like me withdraw from the contest,” asked a defiant Tawadkar.   Determined to ensure his presence in…
