Agonda parish feast celebrated
CANACONA: Parishioners of Agonda took out its annual procession with the statue of Our Lady of Fatima across the village streets on Thursday.
Statues on decorated motorcades were also taken out in others parishes in Canacona at Chaudi, Bhatpal, Chiplem, Galgibaga and Loliem.
In Agonda, the procession was taken out after a mass concelebrated by parish priest Fr Romeo D’Silva and assistant parish priest Fr Abel Fernandes. Elaborate arrangements were made by the parishioners by decorating the entire village through which the statue of Our Lady mounted on a motorcade was to pass. People from other faith also took part.
The statue of Our Lady of Fatima was especially brought from Portugal by Agonda son of the soil priest Fr Urbano Fernandes (now retired) around 18 years back and placed in a grotto near St Anne Church, Agonda.
It is taken out every year only on October 13 for a procession, the day of her sighting by three shepherds, Francisco, Jacinta and Lucia.
