A police complaint has been filed against the owner/manager of an Agonda resort, where a 3-year-old girl from South Delhi drowned in a swimming pool last week in Canacona.

According to Canacona Police, upon receiving a complaint from Imdad Afroz Saizy, resident of New Delhi, an FIR has been registered against the owner/manager of The Rose Beach Resort, Agonda, for negligently keeping the swimming pool unfenced, failing to display warning signs or notices indicating danger, and not deploying a watchman or lifeguard.

The father of the 3-year-old girl alleged that on 04.05.2025 at around 13:30 hrs, their minor daughter, fascinated by the swimming pool water, entered the pool area and drowned.

It may be recalled that the family from South Delhi was on a lunch visit to the resort when the incident occurred. Their daughter accidentally drowned in the resort’s swimming pool while the family was dining at the resort’s restaurant. She was declared brought dead at the Community Health Centre (CHC) after being shifted to the nearby facility for medical attention.

Canacona Police have registered an FIR under Section 106(1) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) 2023 against The Rose Beach Resort, Agonda. The Manager/Owner has been accused of negligence for keeping the swimming pool unfenced and open to the public without deploying supervision or displaying appropriate warning signage, which led to the minor child entering the pool and drowning.

Further investigation is being carried out by PSI Shivram Gawas of Canacona Police Station.
