A 34-year-old construction worker tragically lost his life after falling from the sixth floor of an under-construction building near Newton Supermarket, close to the Starlite Restaurant in Arpora, on Tuesday evening.
The deceased has been identified as Swapan Roy, a native of West Bengal who had been residing in Guirim, Mapusa.
The incident occurred around 5.30 pm while Roy was engaged in plastering work on the external wall of the building. According to preliminary reports, Roy lost his footing and fell to the ground from a considerable height.
Emergency services were immediately alerted, but he succumbed to his injuries before medical help could arrive.
Authorities are investigating the circumstances surrounding the fall. Safety measures at the construction site are also expected to come under scrutiny as part of the inquiry.
Roy’s body has been sent for post-mortem examination. Further details are awaited.
