The directorate of agriculture has decided to train youth through advance harvesting of Niro.
The training program is named as “Niro harvesting training program for production of coconut Niro”.
A batch of 20 youth will be given training at coconut development boards Institute of technology (CII), south Vezakulam, Aluva, Kerala in January-February 2022.
The training will be for 42 days and all expense for stay and training will be borne by coconut development boards and the Goa government.
Unemployed youth in the age group of 18-45 years can apply for the training before January 29, 2021 to the respective taluka zonal office.
Training will be imparted on climbing of tree, scientific knowledge of coconut inflorescence, process of Niro tapping, detail toddy tapping tools, preparation of inflorescence for toddy tapping on the tree, integrated pest and disease management, collection and storage and handling of Niro, testing of Niro quality, value addition of Niro, statutory procedure for Niro production and business management.
Coconut is used in kitchen, oil extraction, medicine, toddy, Niro, dry copra and distillation of feni.
Niro is important component but still olden technology is used by toddy tappers whose numbers is decreasing day by day.
