Will take up Old Goa structure issue in Parliament: S Goa MP

MARGAO
South Goa MP Francisco Sardinha on Wednesday said he would take up in the Parliament the issue of the construction coming up near St Cajetan Church, Old Goa.

The MP said he would actively campaign for the Congress party candidates across the constituencies coming under the South Goa Lok Sabha constituency.

Addressing the media, Sardinha further said he would brief the Union Minister on the construction allegedly carried out by a BJP spokesperson in the heritage area of Old Goa.

Complimenting the people of Goa for their peaceful protest near the construction site at Old Goa, Sardinha hoped that the government will respect the strong public sentiment against the construction.

“The government has shunted out the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) official after he had objected to the construction. I want to know whether the TCP is sleeping over the issue,” he said.

On the MPT’s interference in erection of beach shacks, the MP said that the MPT should not have any jurisdiction outside the Port limit. “Before I raise the issue in Parliament, I would like the State government to address the issue by restricting the MPT’s jurisdiction in the port area,” he said.

Taking up cudgels for the beleaguered postal personnel, the MP demanded that the Post Master General regularise all the personnel, who have been working for the Department of  Posts.

When the media pointed out that Goans are not getting jobs in the Postal department since the State comes under the Maharashtra circle, Sardinha said he had taken up the issue in the past, but the Centre has replied saying Goa is too small a State to have an independent Postal department. “Being an independent State, Goa should have been isolated from the neighbouring state, but that has not happened till date,” he rued.
