Health Minister Vishwajit Rane on Monday said artificial intelligence (AI) will play a central role in shaping the future of medical education and healthcare, with the government looking at AI-enabled simulation, evaluation and other technology-driven learning tools.
Rane, while speaking at the inauguration of GMC lecture halls, said the focus should be on providing medical students with the best educational tools available, while preparing them for a rapidly changing healthcare sector.
“What is the future of medical education? We are trying to give you the best education tools available. AI is the future,” Rane said, highlighting the potential of AI-enabled simulation, AI-based evaluation and other applications in medical studies.
He said the younger generation, including Gen Z and Gen Alpha students, was increasingly active and technology-oriented, making it important to adapt medical education to their learning needs.
Rane also stressed the need for students to develop a critical approach towards healthcare facilities and evaluate the systems they work with. “Today we talk about AI in medicine, AI curriculum, AI simulation labs and new ways of evaluation. This is how the medical sector will go forward,” he said.
Meanwhile, GSIDC chairman Michael Lobo said infrastructure works worth around Rs 800 crore had been initiated across health centres in the State, including GMC. He said all PHCs and CHCs were being upgraded, with new constructions also underway.
Lobo said works worth around Rs 600 crore had been taken up at GMC. A multi-level car parking facility has also been proposed, with estimates being prepared and the project targeted for completion within eight months.
He said the government had also been requested to upgrade internal roads at the GMC premises. New hot-mix carpeting is expected to begin by the first week of November, along with garden and beautification works.
