The Black Yellow Taxi Association (BYTA) on Monday opposed the allotment of Counter No 25 to car rentals at Dabolim airport.
Addressing a news conference, Advisor to the association Herculano Dourado said the board for the counter with car rentals had appeared two days back to the shock of taxi operators at the airport.

Addressing a news conference, Advisor to the association Herculano Dourado said the board for the counter with car rentals had appeared two days back to the shock of taxi operators at the airport.
"For anything to do with cars, permission is needed from the transport department under the Motor Vehicle Act. We have checked with the transport director and other transport depa
rtment officials that no such request was made or any permission granted. The counter cannot be operated without the mandatory permission," said Dourado.
"We had gone to meet the AAI director, but he was not available. We will meet him on Tuesday and put forward our views," he added.
"We have been demanding with the AAI director for transfer of two counters through the government as promised. Since he has not given us the counter, we cannot improve the services. Digitalisation, telephone connection, banking cannot be done as we don't have an address. It's a question of our livelihood and we have already taken up the matter with MP Narendra Sawaikar, who is the chairman of the visiting committee," said Dourado.
BYTA President Sanjay Naik said earlier fights would erupt among operators of tourist taxi and black yellow cabs. "Later, the government intervened and merged it into one single window while assuring no more counters for any other car rentals or other taxi-related services on the airport would be opened."
"With the start of the tourist season, we do not want fights at the airport and spoil the name of Goa. The government should immediately close the counter," he said.
"AAI sources say the counter has been allotted after tendering. This is injustice to the livelihood of the sons of the soil. We have faith that the government will act wisely and close the counter like the STC counter which was closed earlier," said Naik.
